MINNEAPOLIS - Utah set a school record in the 200 free relay during an exciting start to the NCAA Men's Swimming Championships.
In the first event of the morning preliminaries,
Paul Ungur,
Rodolfo Moreira,
Liam O'Haimhirgin and
Austin Phillips finished with a time of 1:17.94 to set a new program standard. Phillips replaced
Clay Stoddard who swam with the other three Utes at this season's Art Adamson Invitational and held the previous mark (1:18.09).
Ungur and O'Haimhirgin teamed with
Jack Burton and
Ben Scott in the 400 medley relay to close the prelims and finished with a time of 3:09.43, placing 22nd overall.
Ungur also took part in the 50 free and clocked a time of 19.68. He entered with the second-fastest time in Utah history that he recorded at this year's Pac-12 Championships (19.56).
The Utes are back in the pol tomorrow with the 100 fly, 200 free, 100 back and 200 medley relay.
