Rachel Whipple won the 400 hurdles open event for Utah track and field to open the Aztec Invitational for the Utes on Friday evening in San Diego.

Whipple ran a time of 1:03.09, just beating out second-place Ute senior
Madison Lanford, who ran a time of 1:03.89. Lanford posted her fastest time in the event since 2016.

Regan Crofts also competed in the javelin on Friday evening, finishing fourth with a mark of 121'1" (36.93 meters) in her second collegiate meet.
