SALT LAKE CITY – A quick start by Washington doomed the Utah baseball team on Friday afternoon as the Utes fell 7-2 to the Huskies in the second game of the series.
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., and
Erick Migueles both had two hits to lead Utah. Keirsey scored two runs and had a double and triple.
Oliver Dunn and Migueles both drove in runs for the Utes.
Josh Tedeschi pitched six innings, striking out seven while allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits in the loss.
Jacob Rebar surrendered three runs with two strikeouts over the final three innings.
Washington took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with all three runs unearned following an error. Utah also scored a run in the first inning as Keirsey led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from Dunn.
Tedeschi got out of a jam in the second, as Washington loaded the bases but a strikeout got the Utes out of the inning. The Huskies added a run in the sixth for a 4-1 lead after a hit batter and single led to a sacrifice fly. A three-run home run in the top of the ninth capped the scoring for Washington.
Keirsey led a late rally with a leadoff triple in the ninth inning. Dunn was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners and after a strikeout, Migueles drove in Keirsey with a single to put the score at 7-2 before a double play ended the game.
Utah and Washington close out the series on Saturday, May 18, at 11:30 a.m. MT. Utah will celebrate its seniors pregame, with the Utes honoring
