SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Utah senior
Jessica Sams completed the 5,000 meters to close out the NCAA West Preliminary for the Utah track and field team on Saturday evening.
Â
Sams had a time of 17:11.44 to finish 47
th.
Â
"It was a hard-fought race and she left it all on the track and we can't ask for more than that," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "She wasn't afraid to test herself and we can't fault her for that kind of effort. She probably went out a little too quick and she paid the price over the course of the last mile. An amazing five-year career comes to an end. She had an incredible career here and is going to be missed in so many ways. I couldn't be prouder of her."
Â
The NCAA Championships begin on June 6 in Eugene, Ore., with steeplechaser
Grayson Murphy competing.
