DES MOINES, Iowa – Utah All-American track and field student-athlete
Grayson Murphy qualified for the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon.
Â
Murphy finished sixth in the first heat with the 14
th-best overall time of 10:01.77. Â
Â
"She came flying down the home stretch and passed a girl right at the end," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "She actually fell on the first lap on the first water jump. She jumped too far, slipped on the apron and went down. She never panicked and worked herself back into the race and ran just fast enough to get the final time qualifier. She is not 100-percent right now and I thought she ran a very courageous race. This is one of the toughest races I've ever had an athlete run. She's in a new environment and racing against a lot of new athletes, including professionals, and I'm just really proud of her. It's another great moment in her history at Utah." Â
Â
The finals are on Saturday, June 23, at 2:20 p.m. MT on NBC. Live results can be found here:
