Holman and Team USA 5-0 at Lacrosse World Championships

NETANYA, Israel – Utah assistant lacrosse coach Marcus Holman and Team USA enter the championship round of the 2018 FIL World Championship with 5-0 record.

Team USA has defeated the Iroquois Nationals (17-9), Australia (19-1), Canada (11-10), Scotland (18-2) and England (19-2) in pool play to earn the No. 1 seed and a bye into the semifinal round. The US will face either No. 4 seed Australia, Israel or Ireland in the semifinals on Thursday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. ET (12:00 p.m. MT) on ESPNU. The championship game is Saturday, July 21, at 3:00 a.m. ET (1:00 a.m. MT).

Holman has scored 13 goals with four assists. His 13 goals ranks second on the team. Holman recently scored a team-high five goals against England, his best game of the tournament. He also had a hat trick against Australia with three goals, and scored two goals with two assists against both Iroquois Nation and Scotland. Holman had one goal against Canada.

"Last night, the U.S. team returned from practice to the hotel around 11 p.m., just as the Croatia-England World Cup soccer game was winding down. A number of the U.S. players put their bags down to watch the ending on the various TV's in the restaurant just off the hotel lobby. . As @marcusholman1 put down his bag, a young boy, Sal, speaking broken English started pointing at one of the sticks in Marcus' equipment bag. It started simply, Marcus saying the word lacrosse. And then Marcus handed one of his sticks to the boy to let him hold it. . Sal's eyes lit up as he grabbed the stick. He started pointing at the head and Marcus quickly went back to his bag and pulled out a soft pink ball. And just like that, they started having a catch in the lobby. Marcus, with his own eyes lit up, started teaching the boy how to scoop a ground ball and throw the ball. . Soon, another boy, Michael, joined in and then as the soccer game ended, people started pouring out into the lobby. @khartzell81 joined in the catch, and then @paulrabil."
