NEW ORLEANS - The Utah track and field team was selected as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team while
Caitlin Faust,
Grayson Murphy,
Sarah Newton,
Jessica Sams and
Poppy Tank earned individual All-Academic honors.
As a team, the Utes had a 3.52 grade point average.
Murphy finished sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase at the outdoor NCAA Championships and was 10
th in the 5,000 at the indoor NCAA Championships in 2018. A five-time All-American at Utah who holds four school records, she graduated with a degree in civil engineering.
Faust competed in the NCAA West Preliminary in the 800, finishing 19
th in the semifinals. She ran a personal-best 800 time of 2:06.70 at the Pac-12 Championships.
Newton ran a personal-best 800 time of 2:07.27 at the Pac-12 Championships, finishing seventh. She finished 26
th in the 800 at the NCAA West Preliminary.
Sams competed in the 5,000 at the NCAA West Preliminary. She placed fourth in the event at the Mt. SAC Relays with a personal-best time of 16:14.44 which ranks fourth all-time at Utah.
Tank finished ninth in the 3,000 at the MPSF Championships with a personal-best time of 9:26.29, which ranks fifth all-time at Utah.
To be eligible for an individual award, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25, ranked in the top 96 individually during the indoor season or have competed in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships during the outdoor season.
