HARTFORD, Wis. – The Utah men's golf team completed the first round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills on Sunday, heading into the second round of play tied for sixth place. The three-day event is being held at the par-72, 7869-yard Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.
Utah carded 4-over par (292) on the rainy first day of action to sit tied for sixth place with UC Davis. Northwestern leads the 11-team field at 2-under par (286), while Arizona State and Iowa are currently in tied for second place with scores of 1-under par. Tournament host Marquette (+1) is in fourth place, while Ole Miss (+2) is currently in fifth place just ahead of the Utes.
"I am proud of the boys today," said Utah golf head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We were not great today, but we did a lot of really good things and we were not far off from having a good round. We are only six strokes behind the tournament leader and if we have a good round tomorrow, we will be right where we want to be heading into the final day."
Junior
Mitchell Schow and sophomore
Tristan Mandur led the Utes during the first round after both student-athletes notched rounds of even par (72). Schow and Mandur will head into Monday's second round tied for 11
th overall.
Junior
Jordan Costello carded 1-over par (73) on Sunday to sit in a tie for 20
th place. Sophomore
Blake Tomlinson shot 3-over par (75) in the first round to be tied in 35
th place, while senior
Kyler Dunkle shot 6-over par (78) to be tied for 60th place to round out Utah's five-man team.
Competing as an individual, freshman
Axel Einarsson recorded 10-over par (82) to be tied for 69
th place heading into the second round of action.
Utah's five-man team will tee off the second round beginning Monday morning at 9 a.m. CT off the No. 1 tee while being paired with golfers from Marquette and Ole Miss. Live results can be found at
