LOS ANGELES - Utah Swimming and Diving concluded the first day of competition at the Bruin Invitational this afternoon.
In his first collegiate meet,
Tony Chen took fifth place in the one-meter with a score of 603.60. He moved up a pair of spots from the morning prelims while
Rylan Little improved one spot to finish seventh overall (580.90).
Daniel Theriault had Utah's best score in the morning session but placed 10th overall (550.60).
Over on the women's side,
Clare Greenlow reached the finals and finished 15th overall with a score of 532.95 in the three-meter.
Emma Ruchala (22nd overall) took part in the afternoon's prelims along with
Makenzie Caufield and
Georgia Brookstein
"I am thrilled about our performance today," head diving coach
Richard Marschner said. "We had at least four season bests and Clare navigated through a very difficult preliminary group to make finals, capping a solid day. It was great to see Tony competing for us as he showed everyone that he is going to be a force in the Pac--12 during his career."
Saturday brings women's platform and men's three-meter events. The invitation concludes on Sunday with women's one-meter and men's platform. There will be a 15-minute break between each of the preliminary and final rounds. Each day of the Bruin Diving Invitational will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center
The Bruin Invite has just short of 100 entries from 15 schools. The Utes are competing against squads from Air Force, Denver, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Hawai'i, Cal Baptist, UNLV, California, Fresno State, UC San Diego, Cal Poly, Northern Arizona and San Diego State
