My Beginning I think my earliest memory of football would probably be when we were living in Corona, Calif. We practiced right next to this public library.
It was flag football and I was probably in first or second grade. I was bigger than everybody and pretty chubby too, so I think I played center and defensive lineman. I just remember bull rushing the little kids and getting a bunch of sacks. It was fun.
Growing up, I played football, baseball and basketball. I probably liked basketball the most, but when I got into high school I stopped playing baseball and kind of picked up surfing. I really enjoy surfing.
I always saw people surfing and thought it was the coolest thing. I was too chubby though and tried it a few times and just got wrecked. I just kind of pushed myself like you do in any sport or activity and eventually you get past that uncomfortable phase and you start to enjoy it.
I got a little bit better and a little more comfortable and went every day for a while. It is nice to get away. To have that balance and get away from the grueling and uptight schedule of football to the relaxed and kind of mellow side of surfing.
