Utah Athletics Place 45 on Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Athletics placed 45 student-athletes on the Pac-12 Conference's Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The Pac-12 Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs) recently recommended and the Pac-12 Council voted to approve a change to the all-academic selection process. Any student-athlete on his or her respective team roster with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution, is eligible to receive all-academic honors. There is no longer a selection process to determine all-academic teams for each sport.

The Fall Academic Honor Roll includes student-athletes who participated in the Conference-sponsored sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. A total of 527 student-athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom and were named to the inaugural list.

Athletically, Utah and Washington were the only Pac-12 teams to have their football team selected for a bowl game and their women's soccer, women's cross country and volleyball programs qualify for the NCAA Championships. Academically, Utah ranked fourth in the conference for total number of student-athletes on the Honor Roll

Women's cross country paced the Pac-12 with 13 honorees. Jade Mulvey and Poppy Tank became three-time all-academic selections, Anna Busatto, Emma Christensen, Nicole Griffiths, Astrid Lindgren, Sarah Newton and Cara Woolnough were chosen for a second time and joined by newcomers Scarlet Dale, Sara Leonard, Brooke Manson, Kennedy Powell and Bella Williams

Football and women's soccer were the top Utah teams with 14 student-athletes apiece. Britain Covey and Jaylon Johnson were recognized a second time for their academic prowess along with debutantes Stone Azarcon, London Bartholomew, Braeden Daniels, Solomon Enis, Cole Fotheringham, R.J. Hubert, Drew Lisk, Paul Maile, Keegan Markgraf, Terrell Perriman, Fua Pututau and Thomas Yassmin.

On the women's soccer team, Holly Daugirda, Ireland Dunn, Kristin Fairbairn and Aleea Gwerder were selected for a third time with Jessica Hixson and Natalie Kump honored on a second occasion. First-time selections included Makayla Christensen, SJ Edwards, Anna Escobedo, Haley Farrar, Emali Mackinnon, Hillary Noakes, Brianna Pearson and Ali Schinko.

Women's volleyball, who just capped its season with a trip to the regional semifinals, added four players to the Honor Roll, three-time honoree, Berkeley Oblad, two-time selection Kenzie Koerber and first-timers Sarah Stephens and Alexa Van Komen
