Ric Mortera has announced the signing of Tayla Whitehouse to the 2020-21 roster. Whitehouse will join the Utes from her hometown of Adelaide, Australia.
"We are ecstatic that Tayla will be joining our family," said Mortera. "She has tremendous upside and we strongly believe she is someone who will make the most of this opportunity and continue to develop in the coming years. Above all, we think she is a great person and encompasses a lot of the values that we are looking for to continue to build the foundation of this program."
Whitehouse achieved an Australian Open ranking of No. 45, while ranking No. 394 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. She has competed in events all over the world and will bring a tremendous amount of playing experience to Utah. Whitehouse competed in the 2019 Junior Australian Open and also had the opportunity to represent her home country at the prestigious Junior Federation Cup in 2017.
In the ITF World Professional Rankings, Whitehouse has earned career-high ranks of No. 899 in doubles and No. 1201 in singles. She also has notched a high ranking of No. 1035 in doubles in the WTA rankings.
Throughout the past year, Whitehouse has posted impressive performances at various events around the world. Whitehouse reached the quarterfinals at an ITF Juniors event in Fiji (B2) and also qualified for the main draw of Mildura Grand International. Strong on the doubles court, Whitehouse notched tournament wins at a Grade 4 event in Bruchkobel, Germany, as well as a Grade 5 event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on the ITF Junior World Circuit.
Whitehouse currently trains at Glenlea Tennis Club and is coached by Todd Langman. The Adelaide, Australia native attends Immanuel College and is set to graduate in the spring prior to joining the Utes.
