The Utes collect new PR's, event titles and a school record in opening meet.
OGDEN, Utah - The Utah women's track and field team kicked off its indoor schedule at the Weber State Winter Open this weekend as sophomore Taylor Watson broke her own school record in the 55-meter dash.Â
In the 55-meter preliminaries, Maya Lebar competed in the heat right before Watson and tied the school record with a PR time of 7.16. Following Lebar's performance, Watson one upped her and broke the school record with a time of 7.13. In the finals, Watson ran another impressive race, topping the record she had just set with a PR time of 7.00 and captured the event title with Lebar finishing in third with the same time of 7.16.Â
Jackie Martin and Skyler Blair also competed for the Utes in the 55-meter dash. Martin finished with a new PR time of 7.39 to move her into a tie for 10th all-time at Utah while Blair also notched a new PR with a mark of 7.44.
Every runner for the Utes in the 600-meter race registered new PR's with Lauren O'Banion winning the event with a time of 1:39.54. Brooke Martin and Kayla Rees crossed the finish line side-by-side clocking in times of 1:41.05 and 1:41.15, respectively. Ruby Jane Mathewson rounded things out for Utah placing fourth (1:43.46).Â
Kolbi Sims competed in both the 55-meter hurdles and high jump for the Utes over the weekend. Sims captured a second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.06 and moved herself into third all-time after having the top mark in the preliminaries. She also tied for second in the high jump with a height of 1.65-meters (5'5").Â
The track and field team will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Boise, Idaho, to compete at the Jackson Open on Saturday, Dec. 14.
