COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah Diving capped a great first day at the Air Force Invitational with Tony Chen winning the men's three meter while
Emma Ruchala and
Clare Greenlow took two of the top three spots in the women's event.
"I am really impressed with our performances today," head diving coach
Richard Marschner said. "We were very consistent and kept our composure throughout the competition. Tony threatened the school record during prelims and came up just short. Emma and Clare second and third was very impressive. I am looking forward to keeping the momentum going tomorrow."
Chen issued a challenge early with a preliminary score of 426.35 in the three meter and coasted to a win. Rylan Little also qualified for the final and jumped from 11
th to sixth with a final round score of 320.50
Ruchala finished second in the three meter out of a field that consisted of 33 divers with a total score of 544.85. Greenlow earned the last spot in the finals and then scored 289.55 to jump all the way to third place to cap an impressive day for the Utes.
Utah is back in action tomorrow morning for day two with the platform events.
