LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Utah men's golf team completed the second round of play at the Prestige at PGA West on Tuesday, where the Utes finished the day tied for ninth place at the Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif.
Utah's four scorers combined for 18-over par (302) in the second round of competition and will head into the final round with a two-day score of 25-over par (593).
"We need to get off to a better start tomorrow," said Ute head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We also need to find a way to hold onto strokes. We are losing too many on the greens. Overall, a good round tomorrow for the team will go a long way in the tournament."
Kyler Dunkle and
Blake Tomlinson led the Utes in the second round after both golfers shot 3-over par (74) on Tuesday. Dunkle will head into the final round tied for ninth place with a combined score of even par (142), while Tomlinson currently is tied for 54
th place with a two-day score of 9-over par (151).
Two Utes recorded second-round scores of 6-over par (77) which were
Axel Einarsson and
Mitchell Schow. Einarsson has a two-day score of 6-over par (148) and is tied for 37
th place. Schow has a combined score of 15-over par (157) and is currently tied for 75
th overall.
Rounding out the Utes on Tuesday,
Tristan Mandur shot 7-over par (78) in the second round to have a combined score of 11-over par (153). Mandur is tied for 60
th place heading into Wednesday.
Leading the 16-team field, No. 16 LSU pulled ahead on day two to take the lead at 9-under par for the event. Top-ranked Oklahoma State (-4) follows in second place, No. 14 Pepperdine (+2) is in third place, while UCLA (+3) and Oregon (+6) are in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Stanford 'B' (+16), Stanford (+17), and Northwestern (+23) sit just ahead of Utah going into the final round.
Utah will tee off the final round beginning with Schow on the No. 1 tee at 7:30 a.m. PT with the rest of Utah's five-man team to follow.
