LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Utah men's golf team concluded action at the Prestige at PGA West on Wednesday, finishing in 14
th place at the three-day event. The tournament was played at the par-71, 7100-yard Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif.
Utah struggled to find rhythm on the final day and went on to shoot 20-over par (304) to close out the event. The Utes finished with a 54-hole score of 45-over par (291-302-304=897).
"We have a lot to figure out as a group," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We need to compete better than we did these final 36 holes. I'm glad we have a couple of weeks before we travel again. We need to get home and evaluate our next steps."
Senior
Kyler Dunkle placed the highest among Utes in the individual standings, placing in a tie for 19
th overall to notch his fourth top-20 finish of the season. Dunkle shot 5-over par (76) on Wednesday to finish the event with a combined score of 5-over par (218).
Sophomore
Blake Tomlinson recorded the best round of the day for the Utes, shooting 2-over par (73) in the final round. Tomlinson finished the event tied for 47
th place with a combined score of 11-over par (224).
Freshman
Axel Einarsson finished tied for 63
rd place with a combined score of 16-over par (229), while sophomore
Tristan Mandur placed in a tie for 66
th with a three-day score of 17-over par (230). Einarsson shot 10-over par (81) in the final round, while Mandur carded 6-over par (77).
Closing out the Utes in California, junior
Mitchell Schow finished tied for 75
th place at 22-over par (235). Schow carded 7-over par (78) on the final day.
No. 16 LSU won the team title in the 16-team field at The Prestige with a three-day score of 14-under par. Top-ranked Oklahoma State (-8) finished in second place, No. 14 Pepperdine (+5) finished third overall, UCLA (+14) placed fourth, while Oregon (+17) rounded out the top-five teams in fifth place.
The Utah men's golf team will have some time off before the Utes head to the Pacific Northwest to compete at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. The three-day event will begin Sunday, March 10, and will be played at Bandon Dunes Resort on the Old MacDonald Course.
