WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – The Utah men's golf team wrapped up the second round of play on Friday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course where the Utes slid to 13
th place at the three-day event in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Utah combined for a second-round team score of 4-over par (292) and will head into Saturday's final round with a two-day score of 3-under par (281-292).
"We got off to a bad start and didn't do a good job competing at all," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "I think we will play a lot better tomorrow. The wind is supposed to be stronger tomorrow and so a good round can go a long way. We are capable of a lot more than we showed in today's round."
Kyler Dunkle and
Mitchell Schow continued to lead the Utes in the event on Friday, both posting second-round scores of even par (72). Dunkle is tied for 24
th place with a 36-hole score of 4-under par (68-72), while Schow is tied for 31
st place at 3-under par (69-72).
Blake Tomlinson,
Tristan Mandur, and
Jordan Costello all shot 2-over par (74) in the second round. Tomlinson sits in a tie for 56
th overall with a two-day score of even par (70-74), Mandur is tied for 82
nd place at 4-over par (74-74), and Costello is tied for 86
th place at 5-over par (75-74) heading into the final round.
Competing as an individual,
Axel Einarsson notched a second round of even par (72) to be tied for 64
th place. Einarsson has a combined score of 1-over par (73-72).
Oklahoma State remained the top team after day two and will hold a five-stroke lead at 36-under par heading into Saturday. Southern California (-31) moved into second overall, Texas (-30) jumped into third place, while Texas Tech (-24) and Oregon (-24) are tied for fourth place.
The Utes will close out the first event of the spring Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. HT (10:30 a.m. MT). Live results for the final round of action are available at
