BANDON, Ore. – Jordan Costello set the course record in the second round as the Utah men's golf team continued its strong play at the Bandon Dunes Championship and remains in second place on Monday at the Bandon Dunes Resort.
Utah put together a second-round 5-under par (283) to cut Ohio State's lead to just two strokes heading into the final day of the event. The Utes have a 36-hole score of 1-over par (577), while Ohio State leads the 17-team field at 1-under par (575).
Playing as an individual in the event, Costello's course record on the Bandon Dunes Course was a career-low round of 8-under par, which ties the lowest score under par in Utah history. The junior's round of 64 also ranks tied for the second-lowest round in school history with current teammates
Kyler Dunkle and
Blake Tomlinson, along with former Ute

With Costello's course-record breaking round, he propelled himself into a tie for fourth place in the event with a combined score of 3-under par (141). Costello's round was also the lowest round the Utes have recorded all year.
Blake Tomlinson is tied for the lead in the individual standings after shooting 3-under par (69) in the second round. Tomlinson sits at 5-under par (139) with Denver's Esteban Missura after 36 holes of action.
Tristan Mandur also continued his great play from yesterday and matched Tomlinson's second round of 3-under par (69) to sit in a tie for fourth place heading into Tuesday's final round.
"Today was a really good day and our guys played really well," said
Garrett Clegg. "Blake continued to play great for our team. Tristan would make a mistake but then would bounce right back with birdies and really battled all day. Our whole team finished extremely well and I am thrilled for all they did today. Jordan had a terrific day and set the course record, so we are very happy for him and how he played."
"Tomorrow's conditions are going to be very windy and rainy," Clegg continued. "Anything can happen in tomorrow's final round and we need to be able to battle through it. The team that battles the most will be the team that wins. Everything we have done these past two days has put us in a great position, but tomorrow is a restart."
Axel Einarsson and
Kyler Dunkle shot rounds of 1-over par (73) and even par (72), respectively, to complete Utah's four scorers on the day. Einarsson has a combined score of 4-over par (148) and is tied for 30
