Utah Diving Concludes First Day of NCAA Zones

Chen qualifies for NCAA Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Tony Chen qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing fourth in the 1-meter event at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals at Northern Arizona University.

Chen had the eighth-highest mark ever for a Ute in the event, besting his previous mark of 327.50 at the UCLA Invitational with a score of 328.80 in the finals today.
Rylan Little took 12th overall after a score of 290.15 in the prelims. Daniel Theriault moved up three spots to 14th with a final round score of 282.90

"It was a very nerve wracking, but successful day," diving coach Richard Marschner said. "Tony missed his first dive of prelims pretty badly but showed great poise and composure to fight his way back after being near the bottom. Rylan and Daniel dove well and Rylan is in a provisional qualifying spot which means he could qualify for NCAA's if he qualifies in another event."

On the women's side, Clare Greenlow and Emma Ruchala both competed in in the 3-meter and finished among the top 40.

Tomorrow, action continues with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter. Platform competition concludes the meet on Wednesday.
