GREENVILLE, N.C. – Utah Baseball used a pair of three-run home runs by
Erick Migueles and
Zack Moeller against Wright State to earn a 12-8 victory and finish the weekend 2-1 at the LeClair Classic at East Carolina.
Â
Utah's bats have been on fire this week scoring at least 12 runs in three of the four games.
Â
A lot of Utes had good weeks at the plate, but none were better than
Zack Moeller who totaled 13 RBI in the four games.
Â
Utah got off to a quick start on Sunday morning scoring four runs in the first inning fueled by Migueles hitting a three-run homer down the right field line.
Â
They added three more runs in the sixth and eighth innings. In the sixth, inning
Oliver Dunn and Moeller each had doubles to bring in the three runs.
Â
In the eighth,
Briley Knight was hit by a pitch and Dunn drew a walk to set the stage for Moeller to hit a three-run bomb putting the Utes up 10-2.
Â
Joshua Tedeschi got the start for Utah and was solid all day up until the eighth inning. Wright State made a late rally at Utah starting in the eighth, but Utah's lead was too large to overcome and Tedeschi ended up getting the win to move to 2-0 on the season.
Â
Jacob Rebar came in for Tedeschi in the eighth and induced a double play to get out of the inning and preserve the lead for the Utes.
Â
Oliver Dunn had another big day at the plate going 2-3 and scored four runs. He also drew three walks against Wright State. In the four games this week, he went 6-12 and scored 11 runs. His slash for the week was .500/1.083/.727.
Â
With the win, the Utes have won four of their last five and hold a 5-5 record on the season.
Â
They now look forward to playing at home for the first time this season at Smith's Ballpark as they host Niagara for a weekend series from March 8-10. The first game Friday, March 8 is set to begin at 3 p.m.
