Women's Tennis Sweeps Western Michigan

SALT LAKE CITY –The University of Utah women's tennis team swept Western Michigan earlier this evening with a final score of 7-0. With this win, the Utes will now move to an overall record of 7-2 on the season.
"It's nice to win a match like this, and I feel like that Western Michigan did a great job with competing against us," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "They were able to point out some areas that we are going to need to work on going into this weekend. I'm looking forward to our first Pac-12 weekend."
The Utes started off strong against the Broncos, earning the doubles point with two quick wins. The first victory came from the duo of Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli on court No. 2, as they were able to defeat Melina Lyubomirova and Femke Tjon-A-Joe with a score of 6-0. To then seal the point, Brianna Chisholm and Madison Tattini tallied a win of their own at the No. 1 spot, defeating Katja Fevralev and Kristina Tiraspolsky 6-1.
In singles, Chisholm kept things rolling with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position, as she was able to top Denise Azcui. Hekking followed shortly after with a win on the No. 5 court, knocking off Valerie Riegraf with a score of 6-0, 6-4. Then, to seal the victory for the Utes, Lindsay Hung was able to pull off a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot against Kristina Tiraspolsky, to improve the Utes' record to 7-2 on the season. Victories by Heimuli, Emily Dush, and Tattini were also recorded, giving the Utes the 7-0 sweep against Western Michigan.
The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend as they will open up Pac-12 play with two home matches at the Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes will first take on Washington State on Friday, March 8th, at 12 p.m. MT, followed by a match against Washington on Sunday, March 10th, at 11 a.m. MT.
