FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Utah men's swimming team toppled another school relay record on the final night of the Pac-12 Championships.
Liam O'Haimhirgin,
Austin Phillips,
Felix Chiun and
Rodolfo Moreira set the new mark in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:52.36
Phillips capped his week by finishing on the podium in the 100 free. He finished third overall with the second-fastest time in Utah history (42.29). O'Haimhirgin swam the third-fastest time ever by a Ute and took fifth overall in 42.54, a NCAA provisional mark.
Moreira also achieved a NCAA provisional time during prelims (43.74) and finished 16
th overall. Chiun qualified for the "C" final but did not compete while
Colten Montgomery placed 24
th.
Daniel McArthur also reached one of the top finals on Saturday, placing sixth in the 200 back after a time of 1:41.49 in prelims.
Robert King,
Jackson Cunningham and
David Fridlander all qualified for the "C" final.
In the 1650 free,
Rahiti De Vos swam a NCAA provisional time of 15:04.13, the third-fastest time in Utah history and ninth overall at the championships. Freshman
Tyler Klawiter swam the fifth-fastest time in Utah history and took 12
th in 15:16.47.
Nick Becker took 15
th in 15:23.97 and
Matteo Sogne hit the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 15:25.43
Four Utes advanced to finals this evening in both the 200 fly and 200 breast.
Chris Taber topped the Utah contingent in the 200 fly, placing 13
th. During prelims, he swam the fourth-fastest time in Utah history, 1:45.75.
Tony Puertas and
Cole Giandinoto reached the "B" and "C" finals respectively and
Ben Waterman's swim of 1:46.69 was the ninth-fastest mark in Utah history
In the 200 breast,
Brody Lewis swam the second-fastest time in Utah history during prelims (1:58.70) and
Harrison Wayner swam the fifth-fastest time (1:59.03).
Ethan Dillard qualified for the "C" final but did not compete this evening while
Andrew Britton swam a 1:59.50 to place in the top 20
The Utes finished sixth overall while No. 1-ranked Cal won its second-straight Pac-12 title. Utah will now send a contingent to the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, March 27-30 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
