BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Utah junior
Sarah Feeny earned her first NCAA Indoor Track & Field All-American honor after finishing in 8th-place at the national championship meet today at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
"I am just Incredibly proud of Sarah," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "A year ago she was on a church mission and this year she is a first team All-American. That is just truly impressive to comeback and compete at this level the way she is."
Â
Feeny took eighth-place overall in the mile event, crossing the finish line in 4:39.35. This marks the first All-American honor for Feeny and the third straight indoor track All-American honor for Utah. Feeny follows former Ute
Grayson Murphy, who earned indoor All-American honors in both 2017 and 2018.
Â
"Sarah didn't get a great start but was very patient and managed to may her way up in the final lap," Kepler noted. "She was patient and held her ground. She just waited to move up when she could. She was able to save energy and did what she needed to do to become an All-American. She showed her instincts and savvy, and I could not be more proud of the kid and what she means to our program."
Â
Utah and Feeny, who ranks second on the school's all-time performance list in the mile, will now look toward the outdoor season, which begins this next week at USC. The Utes will head to Los Angeles to compete in the Trojan Invitational next Saturday, March 16.
