SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah baseball closed out the season on a high note by beating UC Davis 5-1 and sweeping the two-game series at Smith's Ballpark on Saturday, May 25.
The pitching was strong once again holding the Aggies to one run on five hits.
Dustyn Schramm got the start and earned the win going eight innings only allowing four hits. Senior
Austin Moore came in for the ninth to close out the game.
Four Utes had multiple hits led by
Matt Richardson who went 3-3 on the afternoon. Over the two games, Richardson went 6-7 at the plate.
Isaac Deveaux and
Isaac Cruz both singled in the second putting two runners on for Richardson and he came through. Richardson hit a single to center field to score Deveaux to give Utah a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth,
Chandler Anderson hit a triple and then it was Deveaux, Cruz and Richardson that did the damage once again bringing in two more runs.
Erick Migueles capped the inning off knocking in Richardson from second with a double to left field.
From there, Utah's pitching was too good as Schramm struck out three on the day.
Cruz went 2-3 on the afternoon and had one RBI and scored one run as he got the start at second base.
With the win, Utah won four of its final five games of the season against Washington State and UC Davis the last two weekends.
