SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Utah track & field team's season came to an end on Saturday, with
Sarah Feeny and
Bella Williams running the final races of the year at the NCAA West Prelims at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.
Â
Feeny just missed out on advancing to the NCAA Championships in the 1500-meter event, finishing seventh in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 4:17.18.
Â
"Sarah looked amazing thru 1300 meters," said Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler. "She executed a great race, tactically covering all the moves, but she just ran out of gas the last 150 meters."
Â
Despite missing out in the 1500m, Feeny and Williams both were set to compete in the 5000-meter event just a few hours later. Williams finished the first heat in a time of 16:29.29 and Feeny followed in the second heat with a time of 16:57.69.
Â
"Bella was in a really fast heat and responded well," said Kepler. "She beat several people ranked higher than her and just missed a PR. Sarah gave everything she had and was in the mix for the first 3k, but just needed more than 90 min between two championship races.
Â
"Overall, it has been a great season of progress. Our program is in a better place than it was a year ago, because of how hard all of our women have put into it and how hard my staff has coached them. We return all of our NCAA qualifiers next season, so that is exciting. Right now we need to get everyone some well-deserved rest."
