SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Athletics Director
Mark Harlan announced today the appointment of Chris Uchacz as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services, as well as title changes for nine current athletics department employees.

Uchacz spent the last nine years at the University of Maryland and recently held the title of Associate Athletics Director/Director Gossett Student-Athlete Center. He oversaw the daily operations of an innovative and industry-leading academic support unit serving more than 500 student-athletes and coaches representing 20 sport programs. While leading a professional support team of 24, Uchacz guided departmental efforts to support Maryland student-athletes in reaching their fullest potential as university graduates while building a strong foundation for a successful and productive life after Maryland.

A proven budget manager and sport supervisor, Uchacz developed a progressive academic support program providing innovative services in the areas of Objective-Based Study Hall, Learning Support and Tutorial Support. While serving at Maryland, both the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) reached all-time departmental highs.

"Throughout his two decades in intercollegiate athletics administration, Chris has been committed to developing an effective college model where academics and athletics are appropriately balanced," Harlan said. "His extensive background in academic support programming, combined with a multitude of administrative experiences, has helped form a leadership philosophy built on communication, integrity, teaching moments and professional advancement opportunities for those on his team. We are excited for him to bring his vision to the University of Utah."

Prior to joining the team at the University of Maryland, Uchacz was the Director of the Athletic Academic Services Office at Texas Christian University, leading the academic support services team while serving more than 450 student-athletes/coaches representing 20 sport programs. He also oversaw the graduation rates program (APR, GSR, and FGR) as well as managing Student-Athlete Housing and the distribution of Summer School/Exhausted Eligibility Financial Aid for student-athletes. He previously served as Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Support & Student Services at the former University of Texas-Pan American, now known as the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. While there, he also served in interim roles in Compliance, Marketing/Game Operations and Media Relations. Uchacz began his career in athletics as a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois in the Irwin Academic Center for Student-Athletes.    Â

Valerie Swensen to Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Finance,
Gavin Gough to Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities and Capital Projects,
Julia Colosimo to Director of External Operations,
Sean Farrell to Director of the Crimson Club,
Malory Monson to Director of Event and Facility Management,
Grant Robertson to Director of Marketing and
Jordie Lindley to Associate Director of Communications.
