SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Athletics Director
Mark Harlan has announced the hire of Henry Ruggiero as Executive Director for Olympic Sports Performance. Ruggiero joins Utah from the Real Salt Lake organization and previously spent eight seasons at Washington.

"We are impressed with the experience that Henry brings to our department," Harlan said. "He has directed major programs at both the professional and collegiate levels where his teams have excelled and we are excited about his plans to grow our performance programs."

Ruggiero has spent the past three seasons as Director of Physical Performance at Real Salt Lake, where he oversaw the athletic development of every team under the RSL banner, including the Major League Soccer team, Utah Royals women's team, Real Monarchs of the United Soccer League and youth academy programs. He worked with a team consisting of the staffs of athletic training, sport science, sport psychology and sports nutrition supporting all aspects of player development.

Ruggiero worked five seasons (2012-17) as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at Washington and previously spent three years (2009-12) as an assistant strength coach. As director, Ruggiero managed the development of 400 student-athletes across 21 sports and supervised six assistant coaches.

Ruggiero also spent time as a graduate research assistant at Connecticut (2008-09) and did internships at USC (2008) and Boston College (2007). He has a bachelor's degree in applied exercise science and is a certified NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
