SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah lacrosse team scrimmaged Providence on Saturday afternoon, earning a victory over the Friars.
"I thought we did a nice job," Utah head coach
Brian Holman said. "We came out and were prepared. The guys did what we asked them to do and played hard. They executed for the most part, and we'll get better at that also. But the biggest thing was that I thought we played as one. There was a lot of energy on the sidelines and everyone was rooting each other on, which is important to our program. Tons of stuff to work on as always. There is always stuff to work on. I'm just happy for the day, that we had a chance to come out and compete. I'm happy for the guys. I think their energy was contagious and they played with a lot of passion, which is one of our pillars. For a scrimmage, really good. We're still 0-0 and we'll continue to work on ourselves next week and worry about the first game the week after. Grateful for Providence coming out. They flew all the way out from Rhode Island and Coach Gabrielli is an awesome person. They have a great program and are going to be one of the better teams in the Big East. "
Holman also credited Utah's facilities staff for preparing the field through recent snowstorms in the area.
"I'm really grateful for our facilities staff. They have been out here every day. Dan, Trevor and Gavin's team broke our team down before the game and I want them to know how much we appreciate them."
Utah opens its season against Bellarmine on Saturday, Feb. 1.
