Supporting student-athletes is the goal of Utah Athletics. Your contribution will go toward sustaining the academic success of our current Utes, as well as initiatives aimed to advance their careers after college, like the Ute Academy.
Â
Ute Academy
The 2019-20 academic year brought the launch of a new initiative designed to develop well-rounded and successful student-athletes,Â
The Ute Academy.
Â
The Ute Academy aims to enhance the development of student-athletes through community service, leadership, professional advancement and personal well-being. The goal is to assist in the growth of each student-athlete, as they navigate the transition from a student and an athlete, to a contributing member of society.
Â
Student-athletes have the opportunity to participate in two different tracks – red and white – under the umbrella of the Ute Academy. Both tracks focus on the four key pillars: community service, leadership, professional and personal development.
Ascending Academic Progress
The latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate calculations account for eligibility, retention and graduation of all student-athletes on scholarship, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. This year's tabulation included scores from 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18. The average for Utah's teams was 985, easily exceeding the NCAA minimum requirement of 930.
Â
Utah had eight sports (football, cross-country, gymnastics, women's skiing, soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and volleyball) with perfect single-year APR scores of 1000. The volleyball team earned a perfect single-year APR score for the sixth consecutive year, gymnastics received a perfect score for the fifth straight season, and women's tennis has been perfect for three years in a row.
Â
Gymnastics and volleyball each registered perfect multi-year APR scores of 1000. These teams, along with football, received public recognition from the NCAA for posting a multi-year APR in the top 10 percent of all athletic teams in the country. Gymnastics and volleyball also tied for the top multi-year APR score for the Pac-12.
The football team set a new record with a score of 989, which was an improvement of six points and earned them the second highest multi-year APR score in the Pac-12. This is the eighth-straight year that the football team has been in the top third of the Pac-12 Conference. The cross-country (996) and men's tennis (993) teams tied for the second highest multi-year score in the Pac-12, while the men's basketball (980) team ranked third.Â
Â
Four Utah teams improved their multi-year scores from a year ago. Making gains were football (+6), women's skiing (+5), soccer (+5) and women's swimming and diving (+7). Â Gymnastics, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball all maintained the same multi-year APR.

Great Graduation Success
Ninety-four percent of Utah's student-athletes graduated within six years of enrolling according to the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate. Utah's GSR is the highest of any Power Five public institution in the nation
Â
This year's GSR was the second highest in school history and the third-consecutive year that Utah has had a GSR over 90 percent.
Â
The Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) also revealed that Utah's student-athletes are graduating at a higher rate than the U's general student population by five percentage points (68%-63%) over a four-year period. The reason for the difference between the NCAA GSR and federal graduation rates is that the former makes adjustments for circumstances such as church missions and transfers.
Â
Utah had the best (or tied for the best) GSR in seven Pac-12 sponsored sports (football, men's basketball, men's tennis, gymnastics, soccer, women's tennis and volleyball). In addition, eight programs achieved a perfect (100%) GSR score: men's basketball, men's and women's skiing, men's tennis, gymnastics, soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.
Â
Utah gymnastics and women's tennis have had perfect scores every year since the introduction of the GSR in 2005. This also marks the ninth-consecutive year for men's tennis, fifth straight for volleyball and third straight for men's basketball that they have achieved a perfect score. The football program has also recorded its highest scores in program history over the last two years.
Â
Thirteen Utah teams, baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, golf, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's tennis, cross country/track & field, gymnastics, soccer, and volleyball, either met or exceeded the overall Division I aggregate GSR score within its sport.

Fulfilling Fall Semester
A successful fall that included a Top 20 ranking in the Learfield IMG College Director's Cup standings extended into the classroom for Utah Athletics.
Â
Utah's 20 athletic teams—totaling 528 student-athletes—recorded the second-highest cumulative grade point average for a semester at 3.23. It was the 27th-straight semester above the 3.00 threshold as 19 teams finished above the mark, the best percentage for the department since 1984.
Â
Cross country had the highest GPA of any team in the fall with a 3.58. Women's skiing and soccer surpassed the 3.50 mark and skiing also had the top GPA among the men's sports at 3.47
Â
Individually, 54 student-athletes earned a 4.00 GPA, 68 percent made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.00 minimum GPA) and 32 percent made the Dean's List (3.50 GPA or better).
Â
Utah Athletics placed 45 student-athletes on the Pac-12 Conference's Fall Academic Honor Roll. Cross country paced the Pac-12 with 13 honorees, while football and soccer were the top Ute teams with 14 student-athletes apiece. Volleyball also added four players to the Honor Roll. For the 2018-19 academic year, 131 student-athletes were named to Pac-12 All-Academic Teams
Â
Gymnastics moved its streak of semesters above a 3.00 GPA to 49 straight, followed by women's tennis (43), women's skiing (38), volleyball and men's skiing (23) and track and field (22).
