HERRIMAN, Utah – University of Utah men's lacrosse coaches wrapped up an exciting summer with the PLL Championship Series (Premiere Lacrosse League) last weekend as members of the Archers Lacrosse Club.
"Having the PLL in Utah has definitely made an impact for us," Utah men's lacrosse head coach
Brian Holman said. "The scenery, weather and beauty of our state is unlike any other place I have ever lived."

Marcus Holman battled it out in the seven-team championship series. Group play began on July 25th and saw each team play four games in a round-robin style to determine seeding for bracket play – which went from Aug. 4-6 followed by the championship game on Sunday, Aug. 9.
"The bigger impact, I believe, was having our three coaches participate," Holman mentioned. "Who wouldn't want the opportunity to come and learn from some of the best players in the world on what it takes to succeed on and off the field? I definitely want to thank the PLL for pulling this off for all of us and thought it was awesome that Zed [Williams] got the MVP when we were trying to find a way to get The Iroquois Nation squared away for the World Games and beyond, medicine game at its finest!"
"Playing alongside both Marcus and Adam is a dream come true," Manny noted. "The connection and trust we have between the three of us is contagious and we bring that to the field every time we play or coach. They are both so great in their own ways and I take what I can and learn from them to make me a better person and teammate. I know good things are in the future for us and the Archers LC."
Manny, who will be entering his third season with the Utes like his two other colleagues, was second on the team offensively with 14 points (10g, 4a) while Holman, the PLL's league leader in goals last season (33), registered seven points (6g, 1a) for the Archers. Meanwhile, Ghitelman had the best saves percentage (.580) and saves against average in net with a 9.20 SAA to go with his 31 saves during two-plus weeks of matches.
Group stage saw the Archers go 3-1 behind Manny's 10 points (7g, 3a) and Holman's 4 points (3g, 1a). Ghitelman hauled in 26 saves during that stretch while splitting time in net, including a 10-save match against the Waterdogs. In the third game of group play, Manny registered his second hat-trick in three matches to help lift the Archers past Chrome 13-12 in a tightly contested contest.
Heading into bracket play as the No. 3 seed, Manny once again came through for his squad and posted his third hat-trick of the tournament to push the Archers into the semifinals with an 11-9 victory against Atlas.
In the semifinal match against Chaos, Holman led the team with a hat-trick of his own while Manny had one of his own. However, their offensive output as well as Ghitelman's five saves were not enough as the Archers got eliminated by score of 13-9 to end their run in the PLL Championship Series hosted at Zions Bank Stadium.
"I definitely had a lot of pride having the PLL Championship Series here,"
Marcus Holman said. "There have been so many people in support of what we've down with lacrosse at the U and in the community. My teammates LOVED the mountain views and weather for sure."
Manny echoed sentiments by his teammates when asked about the impact of having the PLL Championship Series in Utah, "Overall, having the series here was great for lacrosse as a whole. I know our team enjoyed the bus rides to and from the facility looking at the mountains and the sunrise / sunsets every day. Growing the game out west is important to me and I am very thankful the PLL was able to continue that trend. Much appreciation to both Mike and Paul Rabil and many others that were able to make this happen. I know our youth teams here in Utah were watching and wishing they were there in person. That's what we need. We want these younger players to fall in love with the sport and the PLL is making that happen!"
