SALT LAKE CITY – Following wins over BYU last weekend, the Utah swimming and diving program earned three Pac-12 weekly awards with
Lexi Mills and
Tony Chen being selected as the Pac-12 Divers of the Week and
Cooper DeRyk named the Pac-12 Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Mills took home victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to help the Utes down BYU 176-124 at the Don Reddish Pool in Salt Lake City. The New Kent, Va. native posted a 291.85 to win the 1m and a 297.75 to finish at the top of the 3m standings. Following the pair of wins against BYU, Mills now has three victories this season after earning her first-ever collegiate win at the Utah Diving Invitational in January.
Chen won both the 1M and 3M diving events to help the Utes beat rival BYU 179-121 last Saturday. The Cypress, Calif. native posted a meet-high 341.55 on the 1M and 396.08 on the 3M. Chen has won every 1m and 3m diving event he has competed in this season (Lumberjack Diving Invite, UCLA Diving Invite, Utah Diving Invite, Colorado Mesa, BYU).
DeRyk also helped lead the Utah men to win over rival BYU after claiming four first-place finishes, including setting a Don Reddish pool record. DeRyk had broke the 100 fly record the week prior and broke it yet again, this time winning the 100 fly with a 47.14 seconds. He also claimed the 50 free victory against the Cougars and was a part of the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay first-place finishing teams as the third leg of both relays.
Mills and the rest of the Utah diving team return to action tomorrow at the Air Force Diving Invitational. The three-day event runs Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 4-6 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
