ASPEN, Colo. – The Utah ski team won the CU Invitational after another great performance from the Nordic team including sweeping the podium on the women's side and earning two spots on the podium on the men's side.
Utah held a lead after yesterday's great racing and extended its lead in the final standings today with the winning margin being 79.5 points over Colorado.
Today, there was a women's 5K Classic and men's 10K Classic.
On the women's side
Julia Richter led the way once again getting her second win of the weekend. She just clipped teammate
Mariah Bredal by a little under four seconds to secure her fifth career win.
Karianne Moe finished in third giving Utah all three places on the podium.
"It was another hard race, but the weather was awesome and everyone was in a great mood, which made it super fun," Richter said. "Big thanks to our coaches Miles and Fredrik, who are working really hard as well as our athletic trainer Ian, who always makes sure our legs are fresh."
Abby Jarzin was the fourth Ute racing, and she finished in eighth.
Both teams are missing several teammates this weekend as they're racing over in Europe. Despite that, the Utes still showed how deep their team is with Richter earning both wins and others stepping up and earning a spot on the podium.
"This weekend definitely gives me confidence to know that my shape is going in the right direction," Richter said. "Not all college teams competed this weekend and we were missing some of our fastest teammates, but of course it's fun winning both races."
In the 10K Classic,
Bjørn Riksaasen earned his second podium of the weekend coming in second place behind Colorado's Magnus Boee.
Ola Jordheim was right behind him in third place and
Noel Keeffe finished in 10
th.
This is the second meet Utah has won this year. They also won the Denver Invitational.
Next up, the alpine team will begin racing again early next week as there will be three meets in Utah over the span of 12 days from February 8-19. Nordic teams will now have a break until the RMISA Championships beginning on February 22.
