SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team returned home to the McCarthy Family Track & Field Complex for the first time in two years on Friday, playing host to the Utah Spring Classic this weekend.

Delaney Gates got things going for the Utes, posting her second-best mark of the season and leapt 5.35m on her fourth jump of the afternoon. SLC native
Regan Crofts followed and recorded a season-best throw in the javelin with a toss of 40.18m, which was good for second in the event.

On the track,
Natalie Platil ran Utah's first 3000m steeplechase event of the year and clocked in at 12:12.05 – which was good for second- place Friday evening.
Astrid Lindgren wrapped up the short day of competition for Utah, placing second in the 5k with a time of 19:11.50.

The Utes will be on full display Saturday with an array of racers throughout the day on the track while Gates competes in the triple jump. The pole vault and triple jump will kick off the second day of the Utah Spring Classic at 11 a.m. (MT) and will wrap up with the 4x400m at approximately 3:45 p.m.

In addition, the Utah cross country and track & field program will honor both the 2020 and 2021 senior class on Saturday in three different groups throughout the course of the day with the 2020 class going first at 11:45 a.m.
