EUGENE, Ore. – Former Utah track and field All-American Grayson Murphy used a strong finish to win Heat 1 of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday evening at Hayward Field.
Murphy qualified convincingly for the finals with a personal-best time of 9:25.37 -- just under the Olympics qualifying standard of 9:30 -- the third-best qualifying time of the two heats.
"That was a well-executed race by Grayson," said Utah Track & Field head coach
Kyle Kepler. "An eight-second lifetime best and Olympic Games qualifying mark. Now it's all about resting the body and the mind for Thursday night when she races the final."
The finals for the steeplechase will take place Thursday, June 24 at 9:47 p.m. MT. Live results can be found here:
