As we conclude the summer portion of our Team Behind The Teams series, we introduce you to
Kate Charipar, who is in her fourth year as Utah's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. A long-time administrator, Charipar has been at the U for 15 years and has more than 20 years of experience in college athletics. She is responsible for overseeing the NCAA rules compliance efforts of the University.
During her time at Utah, Charipar has overseen various projects. Most notably, Charipar created one of the first comprehensive student-athlete health, safety, and well-being programs in the country in July 2012. In response to a State of Utah legislative audit, Charipar led the response team in 2016 and drafted the final report in response to the State legislative auditor's recommendations in 2017. She was also instrumental in facilitating the department's transition from the Mountain West to the Pac-12 Conference in 2011.
Most recently, Charipar appeared in front of the Utah State Senate Health and Human Services Committee representing the University of Utah, Utah State University, Salt Lake Community College, and Westminster College. Charipar spoke on February 24, 2021 in opposition of House Bill 302, which intended to restrict athletic opportunities for transgender students.
On July 1, 2021, Charipar began a four-year term representing the Pac-12 Conference as a member of the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee. Charipar is also a member of the Pac-12 Legislative Council and has served on several other committees. As a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), Charipar served on the Board of Directors and as the Legislation and Governance Committee Chair from 2012 to 2017. She has also served Women Leaders in College Sports as a member of the Legislation and Governance Committee in 2012 and as a program mentor during the 2020-2021 academic year.
Prior to joining the staff at Utah, Charipar started her athletics career as a specialist at the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse in Iowa City, Iowa. A former college cheerleader, Charipar earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa, a master's degree in legal studies from the University of Utah, and an executive program certificate from the Sports Management Institute.
