Utah's 2021-22 non-conference schedule will feature 10 games, six of which are inside the friendly confines of the Jon M. Huntsman Center where the Runnin' Utes are 644-162 (.799) all-time.
Â
The Smith era officially begins on opening night as the Utes welcome in Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Nov. 9, to the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Wildcats went 24-5 overall last season and 13-2 in Southland play while earning the league's automatic bid after claiming the conference tournament crown. ACU then went on to stun heavily favored No. 3 Texas 53-52 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
The three-game homestand to open the 2021-22 campaign continues that Saturday, Nov. 13, as Utah plays host to Sacramento State before closing it out with Bethune Cookman on Monday, Nov. 15. The match-up against BCU serves as the first meeting between the two programs and Utah's opener as part of the Sunshine Slam MTE before departing to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the tournament (Nov. 20-21).
Â
Utah's first contest at the Ocean Center for the Sunshine Slam will be Boston College, who it leads 2-1 all-time head-to-head, on Saturday, Nov. 21. Depending on that Saturday's outcome, the Utes will then square off against Rhode Island or Tulsa the following day (Nov. 21). Utah is 5-2 all-time against Tulsa and 2-2 against Rhody. However, when it comes to neutral site games, the Utes are 1-0 against the Golden Hurricane and 0-1 against the Rams.
Â
The Runnin' Utes then return home with a few days to rest and prepare for their in-state rivalry match against BYU on Saturday, Nov. 27, as the 262nd meeting between the two programs return to the Huntsman Center.
Â
After a pair of early conference games slated for the first week of December, Utah then heads to Ft. Worth, Texas, for its showdown against former Mountain West foe TCU on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Dickies Arena. The Horned Frogs will then return the trip to Salt Lake City as the two square off inside Vivint Arena on Dec. 21, 2022. A short turnaround has the Utes heading home right after the TCU game to entertain Manhattan that Saturday, Dec. 11.
Â
Utah then has just less than a week to prepare for its trip to Mizzou Arena and complete the much anticipated home-and-home series against the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, Dec. 18. The Utes will then wrap up their non-conference schedule against another former MWC foe with Fresno State coming to town on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
