SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team routed in-state foe Westminster, 93-58, with ease in its lone exhibition game before the start of the 2022-23 season Wednesday night inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center behind a quartet of players in double-figures.
First half action for the Utes saw plenty of action with 9-of-12 players that checked in registering points.
Branden Carlson led Utah with 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play on 5-of-7 shooting while
Rollie Worster had nine points and five boards.
Lazar Stefanovic was right on the cusp of double-digit points as well with eight points thanks to 2-of-2 shooting from long range.
Utah had a much more balanced offense in the second half with six players hitting at least a two field-goals. Head coach
Craig Smith played all 14 players that were available against the Griffins while 11 of the 14 that saw action found their way in the points column.
Worster paced Utah with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals on 6-of-10 shooting. Carlson finished his night with 12 points and six board on top of three blocks.
Bostyn Holt also recorded 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 night from the stripe in his first game since tearing his ACL last season.
Mike Saunders Jr. gave the Utes a change of pace on offensive with his speed and agility off the bench, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
Utah forced 22 turnovers and was able to convert that to a 29-7 edge in points off turnovers … Utes had a 44-20 had a sizable advantage in the paint, outscoring the Griffins 44-to-20 … the bench accounted for nearly half of the points Wednesday night, scoring 49.5-percent of the 93 points.
