Action Packed Day for Women of Utah Highlighted by Eriksen's Norwegian Record Breaking Run

The Utah track & field team had a great day filled with records, PRs and top finishes at the BYU Indoor Invitational.
PROVO, Utah – The Utah track & field team had a solid showing its first meet with a full squad highlighted by Josefine Eriksen's Norwegian record-breaking run in the 600-yard sprint on Friday at the BYU Indoor Invitational.

Eriksen came out of the gates with speed and only kept the foot on the pedal to break the Norwegian women's indoor track record with a time of 1:19.09 in the 600-yard sprint. That mark narrowly edged out Amalie Iuel's previous record of 1:19.56 that was set back on Jan. 21, 2017, at the Rod McCravy Invitational. Additionally, her time ranks 10th all-time collegiately according to the USTFCCCA records list.

Millie Wilcox, who made her collegiate debut in the same heat as Eriksen, came in third overall with a time of 1:28.19 while Ally Gomm won her heat with a mark of 1:28.88 to take fourth overall in the 600-yard sprint.

Over in the 60m hurdles, Bailey Kealamakia opened the prelims winning her heat with a run of 9.16 (aa) to automatically qualify for the finals where she ran a new PR (9.03 aa) mark for sixth overall.

Dee Denis had the fastest time among the Utes in the 60m dash (7.54 aa) to win her heat and became the lone sprinter to qualify for the finals – which broke the Utah all-time record previously held by Taylor Watson (7.61). The newcomer wound up in third overall in the 60m finals with a time of 7.57 (aa) – which also would've broken the school record.

Maya LeBar had the second-fastest time among Utah runners in the event, checking in at 7.83 (aa) running side-by-side with Denis. Freshman Harley Daniel had a great start to her collegiate career, winning her heat with a mark of 7.87 (aa). Megan Rose (7.86 aa) and Malia Overton (7.99 aa) took second in their respective heats of the 60m dash while Kelise Davis (7.93 aa) took third in her heat. Rose's time was good for a new PR for the Boise, Idaho, native.

Chloe Shewell made her collegiate indoor debut in the 300m dash, posting a time of 41.72 for eighth overall in her first race of the year.

The Women of Utah capped off the day winning the 4x320m relay with its "A" squad of Kealamakia, Daniel, Denis and Eriksen – who won by nearly four seconds with a mark of 2:49.05. Meanwhile, the "B" squad comprising of Davis, LeBar, Shewell and Willcox clocked a time of 2:58.36.

Utah will now get to take the holiday season off to train before picking things back up in late January when it travels to Moscow, Idaho, for the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open (Jan. 20-21) inside the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center.
