SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Nordic skier
Samuel Hendry has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, announced on Thursday. Hendry is the first Utah skier to earn Academic All-District accolades since 2019.
As an All-District First Team selection, Hendry now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in June.
Hendry, a biology major from Canmore, Alberta, helped Utah win its third straight NCAA Championship in 2022, and fourth in the last five completed events. Hendry was the individual runner-up in the men's 20K freestyle race at the 2022 NCAA Championships, earning All-America First Team accolades with that result.
The 2022 collegiate season saw Hendry ski to the podium three times on the way to All-RMISA Second Team laurels. Beyond the collegiate circuit, he skied with Canada at the 2022 FIS U23 World Championships in Lygna, Norway. While in Norway, Hendry raced to 18
th place in the 15km classic, and also was part of a 14
th-place 4x5km relay team. Following Utah's NCAA Championship, Hendry competed at the Canadian National Championships, a stretch highlighted by top-10 finishes in the 15K classic (fifth) and 10K freestyle (seventh).
This year, he has also been named to the USCSCA All-Academic Team and Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll.
In his college career, Hendry has landed four NCAA All-America awards (once in 2020, twice in '21, once in '22). He was the NCAA runner-up in the 20K freestyle in 2021 and placed third in that year's 5K classic, helping the Utes to the national title. Of Hendry's 22 college races since 2020, he owns 16 podiums and four wins.
Utah is represented within District 8 in the CoSIDA Academic All-District program, which includes NCAA Division I programs within the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah and Washington, as well as across Canada.
All-time the Utes have won 15 national titles in skiing and 14 NCAA crowns.
