SALT LAKE CITY – Utah cross country and track & field head coach
Kyle Kepler announced the addition of Chad Berens as the director of operations on Wednesday.
"We're excited to have Chad join us here at the U as our new director of operations," Kepler said. "Chad's experience on the operational side at Wichita State coupled with his experience in sport management will be a great asset to our team and navigate the logistics of traveling a large group like ours."
Recently appointed as the race director for Brooksee, Berens was in charge of executing all race production operations and functions directly related to the event management of the Mesa Marathon, Portland Marathon and Revel Racing Series. In his role, he collaborated with the operations team to execute six different races of 2,000-10,000 participants throughout the year.
He spent the 2021-22 academic season as the head track coach and served as an assistant cross country coach at Summit Academy High School in Bluffdale, Utah. Prior to his time in the state of Utah, Berens was a graduate assistant serving as the assistant director of operations at Wichita State from 2018-20. While with the Shockers, he contributed to the preparation, organization, and logistics of hosting the 2019 AAC Outdoor Championships along with his day-to-day duties assisting the direction of operations.
A native of Lincoln, Neb., Berens was a 2017 NCAA National Championship qualifying team member, an all-region recipient, a five-time all-conference honoree and an eight-time letter winner with the cross country and track & field teams at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Berens earned his bachelor's degree in 2018 at Nebraska Wesleyan in sport management with a minor in business administration and received his master's of education in sport management from Wichita State in December of 2019.
