SAN FRANSISCO – The University of Utah swimming and diving team scored a clean sweep of the Pac-12's monthly diving awards on Tuesday, when
Elias Petersen collected his second consecutive men's diver of the month honor and
Holly Waxman was chosen as the conference's women's diver of the month.
Waxman earned this distinction by putting together multiple excellent showings, including a performance at the Big Al Invite where she took first in the 1m and the 3m, recording NCAA Zone scores in both competitions. At the Texas A&M Invitational earlier in the month, she collected a trio of top three finishes and surpassed the NCAA Zones benchmark in the 1m, 3m and platform, recording a personal-best in the latter event. Waxman also contributed to the Utes setting a program record in the team event at the Big Al Invite. This is the second time Waxman has been recognized by the conference in her Utah career, as she picked up a Pac-12 Diver of the Week award on Jan. 31, 2023.
Petersen has snagged the first two Pac-12 Men's Diver of the Month awards in 2023-24 and this time he did so by recording four first place finishes over the last month and a long list of NCAA Zone marks. On Nov. 20, the sophomore from Sweden took the top spot in both the 1m and 3m against Arizona State, racking up 348.98 in the former event and 378.60 in the latter. When the team traveled to New Jersey for the Big Al Invite, he again bested the field in multiple competitions, with a score of 337.30 in the 1m, 383.28 in the 3m and a personal-best of 291.58 from the platform. Petersen can add this accolade to a list that also includes a Pac-12 Diver of the Week award he received during the 2022-23 campaign.
