CHICAGO – Utah cross country signee Annastasia Peters was recently named the 2022-23 Gatorade Idaho Girls Cross Country Player of the Year.
With the honor, Peter became the first Gatorade Idaho Girls Cross Country Player of the Year recipient to come from Post Falls High School. She is also first Idaho female to produce multiple sub-17 finishes in the 5k races.
"To be named your state athlete of the year in your sport by a brand such as Gatorade is an exceptional accomplishment," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler noted. "Anna had one of the best girls cross country seasons ever in the state of Idaho."
The Post Falls, Idaho, product was the Idaho Class 5A Individual champion this past season with a time of 16:56.07 while leading PFHS to a fifth-place finish at the state meet. Individually, Peters also captured titles at the Nike Twilight Invitational, Mountain West Classic, William Johnson Sandpoint Invitational and Timberlake Farragut Invitational in 2022.
In addition to her athletic prowess, Peters is prominent around her community as well, assisting with food donations as a member of the Northwest Rangers 4-H Club and has worked with local food banks during food drives. She's also involved in roadside cleanup efforts at her local parks and fairgrounds.
Peters signed a National Letter of Intent to run with the Utes back in November, joining Kyla Martin and Grace Moroney as part of Utah's signing class from the distance side.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic
achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. As the Gatorade Idaho Cross Country Player of the Year, Peters joined an elite list of state award-winners and was a candidate for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Player of the Year Award.
