Carlson, Hale, McDivitt, McOmber, Miller, Mills, Pittard and Planells honored by CSC
SALT LAKE CITY – The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District swimming and diving teams were announced on Tuesday and Noah Carlson, Katie Hale, Luke McDivitt, Parker McOmber, Kayla Miller, Lexi Mills, Preston Planells and Charity Pittard from the University of Utah swimming and diving team all earned spots.
No team in the country had more selections than Utah's eight.
Carlson is a former Pac-12 All-Academic Team and Winter Academic Honor Roll selection who has not missed a meet for the Utes in 2022-23. He also owns one of the fastest times in program history in the 200 free and his work in classroom has yielded a 3.66 GPA while Carlson pursues a degree in Computer Science.
Hale has picked up multiple wins for the Utes during her senior season while also playing an important role on the squad's relay teams. This is not her first academic award, as she was a member of the 2021-22 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and has achieved these honors by crafting a 3.89 GPA and majoring in Public Health.
McDivitt owns a sparkling 3.94 GPA as he attempts to earn his masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection and was named 2020 Pac-12 Diver of the Year. McDivitt's accomplishments also include posting the program's highest-ever score on the platform with a mark of 400.75 that earned him the conference title in 2020.
Much like his teammates, McOmber has been in the pool for every Utah meet in 2022-23 and one of the highlights of his year came at Princeton's Big Al Invitational, where he recorded the sixth-fastest 100 backstroke time in Utah history. McOmber is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection whose hard work has yielded a 3.58 GPA as he studies Biomedical Engineering.
For Miller, this selection adds to a resume that already includes a pair of Pac-12 Honor Roll spots and a place in Utah's all-time top 10 in the 100 breaststroke. Miller's 2022-23 campaign has included a victory during Utah's meet against UCLA, as well a 200 individual medley performance at the Pac-12 Championships that led to a time of 2:00.67, the seventh-fastest mark in school history. Miller, who is pursuing a Kinesiology degree, owns a 3.93 GPA.
Mills' GPA stands at 3.87 while she majors in Nursing and her classroom work has been recognized in the form of a pair of Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll picks and a 2019-20 CSCAA Scholar All-American selection. On the boards, Mills is in the top 10 all-time for the Utes in the 3m and the platform and earned a spot in the 2022 Pac-12 platform finals.
PIttard's name came be found in the Utah record book several times, as she's posted top 10 times in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM. This accomplishment adds to a growing list of academic achievements for Pittard that includes three CSCAA Scholar All-American selections. She's earned that recognition by putting together a 3.88 GPA as she pursues her masters in Athletic Training.
Planells has hit the books to the tune of a 3.85 GPA as he attempts to earn a degree in communications. His academic all-district spot comes less than a year after he was picked for the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and he was a CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American as a freshman. Planells has also not missed a meet for the Utes during his senior season.
In order to be eligible for the All-District Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and must have competed in at least 50% of their team's meets during the year. Additionally, they must have completed at least one full calendar year at their current institution. All eight Utah all-district choices are now up for CSC Academic All-American consideration.
