KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –
Kathryn Grant earned a 21
st-place finish and
Holly Waxman took 26
th in the women's platform on the final day of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, which were held on Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
"What an NCAAs by Holly and Kathryn!" said diving coach
Richard Marschner. "They both competed extremely well and we had some great results. Both of them went into today with a tremendous competitive attitude and they did not back down or get intimidated. In fact, I think they're starting to intimidate people with how well they're diving. Everyone on deck knows that these two are going to be a force in the national scene for the next few years and our confidence continues to grow. I personally thought Kathryn did enough to join Holly as an All-American and couldn't be happier with both of them. The future of Utah diving is burning bright."
Grant completed her freshman year with one of the strongest showings ever for a Utah freshman on the platform, collecting 249.10 points, a mark that put her in 21
st and was also one of top five scores posted by a Pac-12 diver on Saturday.
Waxman, competing in her third event in as many days, wasn't far behind in grabbing 26
th with a total of 233.20 points. This makes back-to-back seasons in which Waxman has finished inside the top 40 at the NCAA Championships in two different competitions.
For both divers, this marks the end of a season which they both secured spots near the top of the program's all-time leaderboard in multiple events. Waxman will head into her third season as Ute owning the No. 2 scores in school history in both the 1m and 3m, while Grant sits in fourth in 3m and platform rankings.
