Utah Beach Volleyball Closes Out Weekend In Boise

Utes fall to Oregon and Boise State.
BOISE, Idaho – The Utah Beach Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to close out the weekend in Boise, falling to Oregon and host Boise State on Saturday. The Utes were led by Sydney Jacinto and Kylie Pitzak, who went undefeated on the day.

Utah 1, Oregon 4
Utah opened its match against Oregon with a battle on court two. Grace Andrews and Marissa Koch opened the match with a 21-15 win in the second set, but the Bronco duo bounced back to earn wins in the second and third set to take the early 1-0 lead. Meanwhile, Utah's fourth duo of Savannah Cottam and Sonja Wessel also went to three sets after rallying for a 21-18 win in the second set. Despite turning the momentum around to force a third set, the Utes dropped the third set.
Trailing 2-0, Sydney Jacinto and Kylie Pitzak got the team on the board with a 21-11, 21-13 win on court five. Boise State ended the comeback effort after courts one and three earned wins in straight sets to take the match 4-1.
Utah 2, Boise State 3
The Utes fell behind in the rematch versus the Boise State Broncos after Utah's 4s and 2s were defeated to start the match. Boise State went on to take the first set on the remaining three courts, but Amaya Messier and Katie McAlister bounced back with a 21-18 win in the second set to force a third.
Boise State ultimately took the match after defeating Vezzani and Karich on the third court to clinch the match. Not too long after, Messier and McAlister took their third set 15-12 for Utah's first point of the match. Jacinto and Pitzak battled in the second set, and after trailing 19-17, the Ute pair rallied late to take a 22-20 win and head to a third set. The Ute pair battled in a tight third set and managed to pick up the 15-13 win after leading late.
Utah is back in action next weekend at the Pac-12 North Invitational, taking on Washington and Arizona on Friday, Apr. 7, to open competition. Utah closes out the weekend in Stanford, Calif., against Oregon and USC on Saturday, Apr. 8.
