TEMPE, Ariz. – Utah Beach Volleyball split its matches on Friday, falling to Arizona State before bouncing back with a sweep over Park University.
The Utes began the day against the Sun Devils with courts two and four playing. Arizona State picked up the first set on court four, but Bella Vezzani and Abby Karich were able to earn a first-set victory 21-17 on court two. The Sun Devils went on to take the win on court four for the first dual point, while Karich and Vezzani battled in a close second set, but ultimately came up short 21-19. In the third set, the Utes fell 15-8 to fall behind 2-0 against ASU.
Courts three, five, and one for Utah weren't able to pick up any first sets and would need to rally for the comeback with Arizona State needing just one more dual point to clinch the match. Grace Andrews and Chloe Narancich battled on court three to try and force a third, but narrowly fell 21-18. Later, ASU took the straight-set win on court five and despite an extremely competitive second set on court one, the Utes couldn't force a third set there either.
Looking to bounce back, Utah earned a dominant team victory over Park University to wrap up the day. The Utes received a quick 21-6, 21-13 win from Kylie Pitzak and Sydney Jacinto on court four, and a 21-9, 21-14 win on court two from Vezzani and Karich. The momentum continued with straight set wins on the remaining three courts as well.
