SALT LAKE CITY – A six-run fourth inning for USC broke a scoreless tie and put the Trojans ahead for good as the Utah baseball team was defeated by a 10-0 score on Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Utah had seven hits as a team, led by 2-for-4 efforts by first baseman Jayden Kiernan and center fielder Dakota Duffalo; for Kiernan it was his team-leading eighth multi-hit game of the season. Duffalo, Kiernan and right fielder TJ Clarkson each doubled for the Utes.

Catcher Davis Cop extended a team-best on-base streak to 11 straight games, while Kiernan has now reached safely in 10 consecutive contests.

The Utes strung together a two-out rally in the second inning, loading the bases on three singles and threatening to be the first in the game to reach the run column. But a fly ball to center field ended the inning.

USC put up its six-spot in the top of the fourth aided by a pair of errors.

Duffalo laced a leadoff double into the left field corner to lead off the fifth and took third on Bruer Webster's sac bunt, but he would be stranded at third. Kiernan and Clarkson also doubled in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively, but both would be left at third base.

Four more runs went to the visitors in the ninth to close out the scoring for the ballgame.

Bryson Van Sickle received the loss for the Utes, who will close out their series with USC on Sunday at Smith's Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
