The No. 8 seeded Utah women's tennis team fell short to No. 9 seed Arizona in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament with a final score of 4-1 Wednesday afternoon.Â
Utah battled in the doubles round and found success in the No. 2 spot. Samantha Horwood and Katya Townsend defeated Wildcat duo Parker Fry and Kayla Wilkins with a 6-4 score. In the No. 1 spot, Madison Tattini and Anastasia Goncharova went into a tiebreak where they narrowly fell 7-6 (6).Â
In the No. 3 doubles spot, Marcela Lopez and Kaila Barksdale took Beelen Nevenhoven and Midori Castillo into a tiebreak set as well but fell 7-6 (4).Â
Arizona had the doubles point advantage going into singles action. The Wildcats picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 6 spots to take a 3-0 lead over Utah.Â
In the No. 5 singles spot, Goncharova defeated Fry 6-3, 6-4 to give the Utes its lone point of the match.Â
Arizona clinched the match in the No. 2 spot. Utah's Tattini took on Arizona's Salma Ziouti and picked up a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 6-1, 6-2 in sets two and three to give Arizona the 4-1 win. Utah now has a 13-11 overall record on the season.Â
