TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The No. 18 University of Utah Lacrosse team claimed its first ASUN Championship today with an 11-9 victory over Air Force, earning its first-ever automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championships.

In what was a gritty performance against the best defense in the league, Utah walked away with its school record 12
th win of the season. Utah finished the game with 42 shots, including 22 on goal, also winning the ground ball game with 33 to 23.
The name of the game was possession with Utah winning 91-percent of the faceoffs today, holding Air Force to just two faceoff wins.
GAME LEADERS
It was Brams leading the way on faceoffs for the Utes, winning 21-of-23 (.913) to set a new single-game record for the Utes in faceoff win percentage with his 21 victories also setting an ASUN Tournament record. He also recorded a team-high 18 ground balls, his fifth game this season with double-digit ground balls.
Moyer was Utah's driving force on offense today, scoring a career-high tying four goals on just five shots on goal. Hyde and Todd scored two goals each with
Ryan Stines and Bradbury contributing two points each on a goal and an assist.
Cambere racked up a season-high tying three caused turnovers and a ground ball with
Joey Boylston also recording two caused turnovers.
Nikko DiPonio added four ground balls and a caused turnover with freshman goalkeeper
Colin Lenskold finishing the game with nine saves.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The first quarter would be a defensive battle, with just three goals being score through the 15:00 period. Utah struck first in the game with Moyer scoring his first goal while diving across the crease to give Utah a 1-0 lead with 13:30 on the clock, but Air Force would tie things up 1-1 with 8:59 to go.
Both teams would go scoreless for the next seven minutes with Utah taking a 2-1 lead into the second quarter on a goal from Todd with 1:00 remaining in the first.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Air Force started the second quarter on a 3-0 run, taking a 4-2 lead with 10:57 to go in the period. Utah would answer though with a 3-0 scoring run of its own, taking a 5-4 advantage into halftime.
Utah's run started at the 6:10 mark with Moyer's second goal of the game, followed by another from Todd to tie the score 4-4 with 4:22 left. Hyde would put in the final goal of the half, a diving shot from in the circle to give Utah the one-point lead heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah outscored Air Force 4-2 in the third quarter, setting up the Utes to hold a comfortable lead. Air Force tied the game 5-5 with 13:10 on the clock, but
Jared Andreala would answer right back with Utah's sixth goal of the game and the lead.
Andreala's goal would spark a 4-0 run with Utah taking an 9-5 lead on goals from Moyer and Hyde before Air Force snuck one in to make it 9-6 heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Air Force would make it a two-point game with 9:12 to go, but Stines would get on the board just seconds later to give Utah a 10-7 lead. The Falcons creeped back in within two with 6:48 on the clock, but Utah kept its composure once again, finding an answer in Bradbury to make it 11-8 with 5:32 remaining in the game.
Air Force went on to score with 3:35 left in the game, but Utah's defense stayed solid, keeping them out of the back of the net for the remainder of the game, clinching the 11-9 victory.
