SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah cross country team unveiled its 2023 schedule Thursday afternoon and mirrors that of last season's historical year.
Utah will open things up with a local meet and run at the UVU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 1, at Lakeside Park.
The Women of Utah will then head to Minnesota to defend its Roy Griak Invitational title on Friday, Sept. 22. Utah swept the podium last season behind the efforts of
Emily Venters – who captured her first collegiate victory.
Utah will then get a couple weeks of rest and training in before it heads to Wisconsin for another stacked race at the Nuttycombe Invitational. The Utes finished eighth as a team last season against a very competitive field of top-25 teams.
They'll then return home to host the annual Utah Open meet on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Sunnyside Park to close out the regular-season.
Utah's route to the championships begins on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Pac-12 Championships where Chambers Bay Golf Course will once again play host. The Utes placed sixth as a team in 2020 during the COVID-19 season that took place in the spring.
Morgan Jensen and
Karli Branch are the lone Utes that were on that team that ran at Chambers Bay last. Utah finished second as a team at the Pac-12 Championships last season, tying the 2021 squad for the highest team finish ever since joining the league. The Utes tied Colorado for first at the end of meet for the tightest race in conference history but ultimately took second due to the tiebreaker rule.
The Women of Utah will head to Lubbock, Texas, for the NCAA Mountain Regionals at Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 10, where it'll battle in arguably the toughest region in the country. The Red Raiders will play host to the NCAA Mountain Regionals for the first time in program history.
Should the Utes qualify for the NCAA Championships, they will travel to Earlysville, Va., for the NCAA Championships at Panorama Farms and hosted by Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 18. Utah had its best finish ever in program history last season at the championships, coming in 12th-overall behind the 12th-place finish from Venters.
